Paige + Grant | Waikato wedding

When planning her late summer wedding, bride Paige was looking for a timeless and classy gown she would look back on and still love. Here she shares her experience working with Kenny and Harlow to make her dream dress a reality, and all the details of her big day.

Their Story

Can you tell us about your dress journey?

I went to Auckland with my beautiful bridesmaids and my mum. I feel this is the day every woman gets excited for, finding the perfect dress. I was recommended Kenny & Harlow by multiple people, when I booked, I selected two dresses online that I liked. We turned up and were welcomed into this beautiful shop where I immediately felt so comfortable.

The first dress I tried on was the one, but I was advised to keep trying on other types just in case. It was an incredible experience, I felt so comfortable trying on dresses, even if they were too small the staff made me feel so confident. But I was sold, that first dress was it! Megan got my measurements and also looked at the shape of my body, making the back of my dress, nice & narrow to lengthen my back. I was obsessed!

Going back every second month to try on my dress at different stages was so enjoyable, even in the middle of a pandemic Kenny and Harlow made the experience easy. At the final fitting I tried on my dress and before walking out to show my mum, I cried; the excitement & happiness was overwhelming, I loved it!

What was your source of inspiration (for your dress)?

I really wanted it to be timeless, sleek and classy. I wanted to be able to look back over time and still be just as obsessed with it. They nailed it.

Can you share your engagement story?

Grant was ready to propose, asking our good friend Naomi to help him pick from a selection of rings. Naomi also helped by getting my nails done discretely! I had booked a night at the Rocks for our anniversary and Grant thought that would be a perfect time to do it. After a weekend away with our friends Todd & Krista, we turned up at the rocks, poured a glass of red wine and went for a walk at sunset. Then Grant dropped to one knee, ring box upside down and popped the question “will you marry me?” Many tears and excitement and a big “YES!”

Where did you get married / what was special about your venue?

My best friend and maid-of-honour got married at the Red Barn and I fell in love. When it came to our time to getting married it was on the list of venues to go and see. When we turned up, Bridgette and her team really sold it to us. They did the set up and pack down, they had a wet weather venue on site, they had the ceremony/reception in one area & they had incredible staff Tayla and Shannon to help run the day. We honestly could not recommend the venue more.

What was your favourite part of the day?

I loved it all, but there were three particular times of the day where I really thought ‘wow this is incredible’. Firstly, I was so excited to see my husband to be, at the end of the aisle.

Secondly, we had an hour between photos and reception where we got to mix and mingle and play games which I loved and highly recommend. And lastly, I loved the dancing to the band with all my friends and family at the end of the night.

If you could give other brides-to-be one piece of advice, it would be…

Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Once the day before the wedding arrives, try to relax and take it all in. During the day, make those special moments for just you and your husband because the day goes so fast. Let your bridal party answer any of the questions on the day and enjoy it!
