Can you tell us about your dress journey?
I visited a couple of different dress stores when I first started looking, and found it so overwhelming. There was so much choice and I had no idea where to begin, it wasn’t quite the experience I had dreamed about. I took some time away from my search and eventually found Kenny and Harlow. When I first came to see Meg, I felt so at ease and comfortable thanks to her lovely personality and incredible knowledge and experience in the dressmaking industry.
Working with Meg was so easy and fun from start to finish. She listened to my thoughts and ideas and was so helpful. I was originally considering a completely bespoke dress, but when I tried on one of her samples, I fell completely in love with it and had to have it.
I was so blown away by the meticulousness that Meg and her team put into their work. Meg spent so much time making sure every detail was perfect and provided such a personalised service that I didn’t experience anywhere else.
What was your source of inspiration (for your dress)?
I was very keen on a Carolyn Kennedy style wedding dress as I wanted something that was relaxed, yet elegant and stylish. Instead I chose something quite different to what I thought I wanted.
What I liked about the dress I chose was how it was structured, yet still simple and so easy to wear. The fabric was just gorgeous and had a beautiful subtle shine to it. I wasn’t originally keen on a big tulle skirt, but the idea of an overskirt that could be taken off to transform the dress, was something that I really loved, and made me feel more like a bride. Also Meg’s raw Italian silk tulle was hard to say no to!
The simplicity of it was still reminiscent of the Carolyn Kennedy style, but suited my own personal style so much more.
Can you share your engagement story?
We were in Budapest and Alex took me out for an amazing dinner before we caught the funicular up to Buda castle which overlooked the city. We wandered around until we found a quiet spot to watch the twinkling lights. Alex got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was very romantic! We then went for champagne on a rooftop bar to celebrate. It was so perfect, I wish I could experience it all over again!
Where did you get married / what was special about your venue?
We got married at Kinloch manor and villas on Lake Taupo. We fell in love with it’s incredible architecture, modelled off of a Scottish castle. We liked that it wasn’t traditionally a wedding venue, and that it was super relaxed with a perfect amount of luxury. We also loved that all of our guests could stay at the lodge with us, and that they were able to relax and have a fun weekend. It was so cool to see everyone the next day going out swimming, golfing, biking and hiking. It really made the whole weekend feel like a relaxed celebration of family, friends and love.
What was your favourite part of the day?
Seeing Alex at the end of the aisle. It all became very real in that moment and seeing his face gave me comfort and completely put me at ease. He really is my best friend, so that was very emotional and I’ll never forget the feeling!
If you could give other brides-to-be one piece of advice, it would be…
Don’t overthink things, and try not to get too caught up in the details!
At the end of the day, your wedding day is simply about the two of you and your love for one another so soak it all in and create some amazing memories.
