Can you tell us about your dress journey?
I went to see Meg with a rough idea of what I thought I wanted, but an open mind to trying different styles that I wouldn’t usually go for. In our first appointment I tried on all different shapes/ styles and then Meg pulled out these beautiful organza sleeves with a train attached and I knew straight away I wanted to wear them. They were so fun which is exactly what I wanted on the day, and a dress that was simple & elegant to match.
I looked forward to our fittings as they were always easy, and Meg made you feel super comfortable and I completely trusted her judgement.
What was your source of inspiration (for your dress)?
I tried on my Mum’s wedding dress before attending the first appointment with Meg, so the puff organza sleeves and ruched bodice on the dress reminded me of my mum’s dress which was special! The dress itself was quite simple which I loved.
Can you share your engagement story?
We had been In Queenstown for a long weekend skiing with friends and decided to finish the trip with a road trip to Christchurch stopping off in Twizel for the night. Hamish surprised me by booking for us to stay at Skyscape, a beautiful unique accommodation where guests stay in glass roofed units so you can literally stargaze all night. We went for a walk shortly after arriving and it was here that Hamish proposed with the backdrop of the Mackenzie country. We were very isolated, so it was super special having the night to ourselves to relish in the moment.
Where did you get married / what was special about your venue?
We wanted a destination wedding, where our friends and family could all be together for the weekend. We both love visiting Queenstown and try to get down there at least once a year, on a trip in early 2021 we came across The Winehouse and loved the venue, and gardens there are stunning. The Winehouse made the whole day come together perfectly, and very stress free!
What was your favourite part of the day?
Everything! It was so much fun, made extra special after coming out of Auckland lockdown after postponing the original date, and getting to celebrate with all our friends and family.
If you could give other brides-to-be one piece of advice, it would be…
Make your day what you want it to be, you don’t need to follow a ‘tradition’ if it doesn’t sit right for you! And the old classic, take a moment away with your new husband on the day to be present and soak it all in as it goes by so fast.
