Becky + Karl | North Canterbury wedding

The lovely Becky shares her experience working with Kenny and Harlow to create her dream custom wedding dress, plus some special advice for brides-to-be.

Their Story

Can you tell us about your dress journey?

It started with a recommendation from a friend to pop in & see Meg – the best wedding advice I got. I shared an idea of things I loved and didn’t like. Next thing Meg had material around to show what was possible & multiple lace options out across the floor. I fell in love with a beautiful piece of French lace & that was that.

Meg guided me through what would suit my body shape to make me feel absolutely beautiful, but also comfortable (part of my ‘loved’ ideas for Meg). As the dress evolved over many appointments – so did my love for every aspect of the dress. Long story short, it was the dress of my dreams!

What was your source of inspiration (for your dress)?

  • I wanted it to be informal for an outdoor wedding
  • My love of flowers – which creates a strong link to my Nana & my engagement ring which has petals as claws
  • One of my other loves – the old Taylor Swift, her country princess days!

Can you share your engagement story?

While we were living in London, my husband Karl organised a trip to Taormina in Sicily for my 30th birthday for some beachside R&R, plus great food & wine.

The morning after my birthday, Karl woke me to watch the sunrise from our hotel balcony with beautiful views out across the bay. He handed me a card that had the most precious words & then was down on one knee asking me to marry him.

Where did you get married / what was special about your venue?

West Eyreton Hall, North Canterbury. It’s a simple, yet gorgeous country hall.

What was your favourite part of the day?

We dreamed of bringing Italy to NZ, with a long, al fresco, slow dinner. So as the sun set, under a canopy of festoon lights, we dined along 2 long tables, with decanters of wine. Better yet – we kept it super casual with no seating plan!

If you could give other brides-to-be one piece of advice, it would be…

Definitely work with experts, like Meg! They absolutely make your dreams come to life for your special day

Enjoy the journey, relax into the final preparations & pinch yourself multiple times on the day! It’s a beautiful celebration for you and your husband to be – so enjoy every aspect of the experience.
